I can't imagine GGP is given up for free. Another Planet has got to be paying something, so how much is it? I'd like to know that.

Related, I did notice last year at Outside that a set of public bathrooms and a water fountain were on the other side of the fence from the festival attendees. I could understand the bathrooms being cut off from the fest (over-use and general festival abuse plus your oft-found hurler - that would be a lot to clean). I couldn't understand the public drinking fountain cut off from the crowd. That was just wrong.

    • While I am no fan of closing off public lands, it should at least be mentioned (as reported in the SF Chronicle the other day) that the Outside Lands concerts will raise almost $2 million dollars for the Recreation and Parks Department.

      www.sfchron.com/c/a/2009/0...418409G.DTL

And no, it is not a Dead show.
      • raise almost $2 million dollars for the Recreation and Parks Department.

        Raise?

        No.

It is being ****charged**** fees by Rec and Park.

Another Planet Entertainment is trying to make it sound like the fees it is being charged are donative, as if it is putting on some sort of benefit for SF.

Another Planet Entertainment is intentionally being misleading.
        • Semantics. Raise, charge, whatever.... bottom line is R & P has $2m more for maintenance of GGP.
          • Semantics. Raise, charge, whatever.... bottom line is R & P has $2m more for maintenance of GGP

            huh?

a private company is expropriating a third of GGP for almost two weeks, kicking out the public of GGP for almost two weeks, and intentionally misleading people by calling `paying fees' `raising money' and you shrug your shoulders and say `what me worry?'

$2mill is not in the bank yet.

Plus, R&P spent $1.2 on the buffalo paddock last year: So one has to wonder if there is more of a managerial crisis than financial crisis

I swear, people must be really bored nowadays. Anamika, you can use your public park 362 days out of the year without having to pay for admission. In fact, it's the only really suitable piece of land to have a music festival of that scale in San Francisco. God forbid they charge for entertainment.

And Quaydin, ranting and raving endlessly about the strictures of tribe edicate?? Please tell me you do other things with yourself besides peruse tribe all day long. The fact that you would put up such a stink over the use of a free website is honestly laughable. I'm sure you'd be willing to debate that, but I'm not. It just seems so silly to make mountains out of molehills, in fact, it even seems silly that I validated you by responding.

I’d like to point out that this didn’t start off as a rant. This started off with me seeking additional information. It is others here that have blown this out of proportion. How come you aren’t complaining about their behavior?

BTW, my Tribe usage is normally less than one visit per day.

Coach made a point about people not wanting to put diapers on horses. I think the reason folks don’t want to do essentially that same thing in here is because when they try to do that, they become targets for vitriol.

“The fact that you would put up such a stink over the use of a free website is honestly laughable.”

You’re off-target here. I want people to use the web site and I promote the use of this web site. My objections are not about whether it is used, my objections relate to how it is abused. The fact that you missed this point reflects on yourself just as laughably.
  • I would like to suggest to you that this topic is not appropriate for this tribe.
    • Quaydin

this is not appropriate because there is no connection between the grateful dead and concerts in GG Park. Oh wait theres totaly a connection.

I know its really annoyiong to have people tell you to relax so forgive me when I suggest you relax a little and let her vent. Its not like her post was about sammy haggar's relationship with Van Halen
      • Hi, Coach

I know you and I aren't always on the same side of issues, but I don't call you out for posting related commentary or opinions.

I think you recognize that. If not, you can think back about where we've collided on the boards and where we've both observed quietly.

I think you might also realize that I've always been civil towards you. That hasn't always been easy, because your posts are sometimes abrasive. So be it - it's part of what makes you YOU.

I'm still tired of spam, and am becoming more aggravated about this form of abuse, especially when Tribe makes it fairly easy to establish appropriate venues for this sort of thing.

Cross-posting impinges on the bandwidth as it is. Cross-posting stuff that's off topic not only drains system resources but is rude as well. I don't tolerate rudeness in my house and I don't normally suffer rudeness from strangers.

You are welcome to do as you see fit. Be prepared to pay the prices for the choices you make in Life.
        • Quaydin I really wasnt trying to bust your balls. I think sometimes because you cant hear the persons tone of voice that its easy to hear things more harshly than they were intended. Though I do understand that its a bit annoying to say the least, to have someone tell you to relax. I understand how condescending it might sound. I attempted to express that but apparently failed sorry.

I think you might understand that tribe is a free and open conversation all I was trying to do was point out that its actually not as far off topic. it would appear at first glance. As far as it being a cross post well I never saw it anywhere else.

I have thought back to the times when we have butted heads but to be honest Im totaly drawing a blank, but I do appreciate you magnanimously allowing me to be me.

As far as the spam thing goes i hear ya on that one but I think she was tryin to bring up an issue that she obviously cared about. The first time I read it I had the same feeling as you but after thinking about it I relized who am I to tell someone what they can and cant talk about. Its not like she was offering us canada pharmacy discounts or a product garunteed to help us meet horny lcal singles or provide an extra 2 inches for our cocks. She just wanted to talk about public spaces being used for private profits. A public place the dead have used many times. So all in all its not that far off topic

Now as far as this statement goes

<<You are welcome to do as you see fit. Be prepared to pay the prices for the choices you make in Life.>>

MIssing tones and context aside its pretty hard to see how thats not a passive aggresive threat. I might add a pretty lame and petty one at that. just some friendly advice, you should understand making threats which could never be folowed through on only serves to weaken what ever valid points may have preceded it. In the end noone is intimidated and you end up looking kind of like a tool

Wasn't intended to be any kind of a threat. It's a bit if Life Wisdom that I didn't learn until long after I was alledgedly an "adult". It was pubished by Ann Landers. "Life often puts prices on the choices we make. Sometimes the best thing to do is to pay up gracefully" After reading and re-reading it, I've come to believe that Life always puts prices on the choices we make - it's just that sometimes the price is easier to pay than other times.

It's no more of a threat than one's belief in Karma.
          • "As far as the spam thing goes i hear ya on that one but I think she was tryin to bring up an issue that she obviously cared about."

Agreed, but that's why people can make new tribes here. I believe that hijacking an existing tribe isn't appropriate. I am just passionate enough about The Dead to join this tribe and to participate in it. IDGAFF about APE trying to profit from a temporary venue and I think that property rights issues need to be resolved in courts (not by public sentiment).

"The first time I read it I had the same feeling as you but after thinking about it I relized who am I to tell someone what they can and cant talk about"

I'm too much of a libertarian to try to prohibit speach. Also, I was initially unsure about whether the post was appropriate, which is why I sought additional information about it before raising an objection. Even my objection was pacific - intentionally phrased as a suggestion, rather than as a authoritarian prohibition (I'll leave authoritarian prohibition to the Moderator). The point is that you don't have to tell people what to do or what to not do, yet you still can speak up and say what you like and don't like.

"Its not like she was offering us canada pharmacy discounts or a product garunteed to help us meet horny lcal singles or provide an extra 2 inches for our cocks."

If you are trying Reduction to Absurdity, I will point out to you that further or other Reduction to Absurdity will counter your reasoning.

"She just wanted to talk about public spaces being used for private profits."

As a topic, this would be more appropriate to a Property Rights tribe, or to a Fascist Metropolitan Governments tribe, or an Abuses of Power tribe. As far as I can tell, Deadheads Unite! is not about public spaces or about private profits.

"A public place the dead have used many times. So all in all its not that far off topic"

I've attended a couple of shows at the Polo Field and the concert in support of Proposition M in the meadow. It's probably why I asked if the APE event was going to be a Dead show. I was hoping for a positive answer, and willing to reminisce about those other shows I've seen, in order to further contribute to this tribe. It's frustrating to me to find out that someone's abusing this tribe in order to recruit me into their political agenda.

  • Considering the Grateful Dead and many other bands got their start putting on free shows in GG and that GG plays a important part in Deadhead culture I don't see this as off topic. I hear a Deadhead complaining that her beloved GG is being taken over by money greedy corporations who play a major part in destroying much of the music scene with their spoon fed commercial pop music garbage. GG is a important part of Deadhead Hipstory. So lets stop the personal attacks between each other.

REMEMBER THIS TRIBE IS ABOUT THE DEADHEAD CULTURE & HIPSTORY AS WELL AS THE BAND.
